Class description; Starting with an introduction to the world of fine porcelain painting, materials, tools and techniques. Porcelain was developed in China in the 8th century, later taken up in Korea and Japan,often referred to as the White Gold of the Far East. Highly priced for its fineness, whiteness, the secret of making porcelain has been closely guarded for centuries. Decorated porcelain ware has been exported to Europe already in the 9th century, but it was not until the18th century that it was manufactured in Europe. Technology and styles refined, the decoration of hand painted porcelain reached high level in the 19th century, often resembled oil paintings. More recently interest has revived in china painting as a fine art form. China paints are in powder form, mixed with various mediums to a paintable consistency. Applied on glazed porcelain surface, which is a very different background to paper or canvas. Once fired and fused to the glaze, the motive stays permanent. During this class you will learn; - How to mix the colours - Ancient techniques to apply them by fine brushes on the glazed surface, creating delicate designs By learning the traditional way of hand painting you gain a skill, which you can use to decorate anything in the pottery world. Small classes, focused on you, giving the basic knowledge about this complex, fine, beautiful technique. At the end of the session you are encouraged to choose an item of your liking and paint your own design.
